Marshfield Rotary recently welcomed Rochley Gross, Fraud Analyst at Forward Bank, to discuss safeguarding our financial well-being in an increasingly digital world. Gross brought a wealth of expertise to the table, drawing from his impressive 20-year career in law enforcement and specialized training in cryptocurrency analysis. Beyond his daily role managing security threats, Gross actively gives back by conducting in-house fraud training sessions at local companies and schools to empower employees and students alike. He emphasized that protecting your financial health relies on continuous education and proactive prevention, especially since criminal attempts to steal personal data remain unrelenting. Because these digital threats evolve so rapidly, recognizing the early warning signs of online scams is the most critical first step in shielding families and businesses from harm.

During the presentation, Gross highlighted four essential keys to personal protection that everyone should implement immediately when facing suspicious activity. First, it is crucial to slow down and resist the artificial sense of urgency created by scammers. Second, always verify the information through independent sources before taking action. Third, talk to a trusted family member or peer to get a second perspective on the situation. Finally, always call your financial institution directly using a known, trusted phone number—never the number provided in a suspicious email, text, or unexpected phone call.

By keeping these four practical strategies in mind, community members can build a strong defense against deceptive online tactics. Marshfield Rotary extends its gratitude to Rochley Gross and Forward Bank for sharing these vital security insights and for their ongoing commitment to community education. Staying informed and looking out for one another allows our community to remain resilient against fraud. We encourage everyone to pass these simple safety tips along to neighbors and loved ones to help keep Marshfield secure.
