Teri Wilczek, Jane Holewinski, and Tara Mannigel each discovered running in their own unique way but all share a deep connection to movement, motivation, and meaning. From early childhood challenges to adult commitments, their stories reflect how running and exercise became more than exercise. It became a way of life.
Teri’s path began with resistance. Though she was a dedicated basketball player, she disliked running until a challenge sparked her determination. She began using a run-walk approach to build stamina, transforming her mindset and embracing the journey.
Tara’s love for running was sparked in second grade, when a creative teacher turned laps around the school into a goal-driven adventure. The top finishers were rewarded with a trip equal to their mile distance: first to the Madison Zoo, then to Milwaukee Zoo, planting the seeds of motivation and joy. Jane’s passion took root in grade school as well, when she began tracking her daily runs over a summer. That simple act of documentation ignited a lifelong love for the sport and a commitment to personal growth.
Together, these women continue to take one step at a time—setting examples for their families, celebrating personal achievements, sharing time with friends, and soaking in the fresh air and beauty of nature. Their stories remind us that running isn’t just about pace or distance, it’s about purpose, connection, and the joy of movement.

Now, they challenge you to take your own first step. Whether it’s meditation, yoga, weights, walking or joining the Turkey Trot 2-mile by walking, run-walking, or running. It’s about finding what moves you. Or maybe your stride is in service: volunteering and helping out in your community. Whatever it is, get active, get involved, and discover the joy of showing up for yourself and others.
